Next year, the Applied Cartooning Lab will move into CCS’s newly renovated Old Telegraph Building, bringing the Lab into the heart of the Center for Cartoon Studies’ campus and daily activity. We’ll share a building with CCS classrooms and studios, a state-of-the-art production lab, our special collections archive, and spaces for public events, among other programs.
After the renovation, the iconic downtown building will be fully accessible and more climate-resilient than our current space. It will also house a specialized bookshop in partnership with our friends from Norwich Bookstore, who have helped distribute the Lab’s publications over the years.
This move represents an important next step for the Lab. Being alongside CCS’s students and creative community will create more opportunities for collaboration, mentorship, and the exchange of ideas, making the Lab an even more integral part of CCS’s educational and public-facing work.
This is more than a change of address. It is an opportunity to bring the people, ideas, and resources that make applied cartooning possible into closer conversation—and to build an even stronger foundation for exploring the potential of comics in the public sphere.
