Working with the Heidelberg Institute of Global Health, the Applied Cartooning Lab partnered with global health researchers, including the African Academy for Public Health (AAPH) and University of Dodoma (UDOM), to translate a page of Let’s Talk About It, A Graphic Guide To Mental Health into Swahili to be shared in a workshop of ten 15-18 year old adolescents at a local school in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. If all goes well, additional pages of the comic will be translated and disseminated to thousands of adolescents throughout Sub-Saharan Africa. The summary and objectives of the project can be found here.
Let’s Talk About It was created by Cara Bean and this April look for her new book: Here I Am, I Am Me: An Illustrated Guide to Mental Health. Years in the making, this full-color graphic novel-style adventure demystifies and destigmatizes emotional and mental health for children ages 12 and up. Available now for preorder as well.
